Sally and Max Learn about Water Safety

    16 Feb 2026 Sally & Max's Adventures

Sally and Max had always loved to swim, but they knew that there were dangers associated with being in and around water. They had heard stories of people drowning or getting injured while swimming, and they knew they needed to learn about water safety.

One day, they decided to take a water safety class at the local community center. They wanted to learn how to be safe while swimming and how to help others if they got into trouble in the water.

The class was taught by a friendly instructor named Hunter. She started by talking about the importance of wearing a life jacket while boating or participating in water sports. Sally and Max had never worn life jackets before, but they quickly realized how important they were.

Hunter demonstrated how to properly wear a life jacket and how to adjust it for a snug fit. Sally and Max tried on life jackets of their own, and they could immediately feel the difference it made in the water.

Next, Hunter talked about the dangers of swimming in open water, like rivers or lakes. She explained how currents and hidden objects could make it difficult to swim, and how it was important to always swim with a buddy.

Sally and Max learned that they should never swim alone, and that they should always stay within sight of each other. They also learned to never swim in areas that were marked as unsafe or off-limits.

After the classroom portion of the class was over, it was time to practice what they had learned in the pool. Hunter demonstrated how to help someone who was struggling in the water, and then Sally and Max took turns practicing.

Sally pretended to be in trouble, and Max had to swim over and help her. He learned how to approach her from behind, put one arm under her armpit, and use the other arm to swim back to safety. Then, they switched roles and Sally helped Max.

They practiced this skill over and over again until they felt confident that they could help someone if they ever needed to. Sarah also taught them how to call for help if they saw someone in trouble and how to properly use a flotation device to help someone stay afloat.

As the class continued, Sally and Max learned about other important water safety topics, like how to spot a rip current and what to do if they found themselves caught in one. They also learned about the dangers of diving into shallow water and how to properly enter the water feet first.

By the end of the class, Sally and Max felt much more confident in their ability to be safe while swimming. They knew that accidents could still happen, but they felt prepared to handle them if they did.

A few days later, Sally and Max went to the pool to practice what they had learned. They put on their life jackets and swam together, staying close to each other and making sure they were always within sight.

As they were swimming, they noticed a little boy who was struggling to stay afloat. Sally and Max immediately swam over to him, and Max used the technique he had learned in class to help the boy back to the side of the pool.

The boy’s parents were grateful, and Sally and Max felt proud of themselves for being able to help someone in need. They knew that they had learned important skills in their water safety class, and they were happy to put them into practice.

From then on, Sally and Max made sure to always follow the water safety rules they had learned. They wore life jackets when they were boating or participating in water sports, and they never swam alone or in areas that were marked as off-limits.

They also continued to practice their water safety skills, like helping someone who was struggling in the water or calling for help if they saw someone in trouble. They knew that being safe in and around water was important, and they were happy to be prepared for. Sally and Max always remembered their favorite instructor, Hunter!!
