Our hearts go out to the families affected \u2014 especially those in Kerr County, where over 130 lives have been lost and many more are still missing. As a swim school, we know that water can be joyful and life-giving \u2014 but it can also be unpredictable and, at times, deadly.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why we want to take a moment not only to honor those impacted by these floods but also to talk about the power of preparedness, the importance of swim education, and what we can all do to stay safe.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"x-el x-el-h3 c2-66 c2-67 c2-1o c2-1p c2-1q c2-1r c2-1s c2-1t c2-3c c2-3 c2-2d c2-1y c2-47 c2-48 c2-49 c2-4a c2-4b\">\ud83d\udca7 Flood Waters Aren\u2019t Just \u201cDeep Puddles\u201d<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>One of the most dangerous myths is that floods are slow or shallow. In reality:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Just\u00a0<strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-3x c2-3y c2-3 c2-5m c2-31 c2-1z c2-5n\">6 inches of moving water<\/strong>\u00a0can knock over an adult.<\/li>\n<li><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-3x c2-3y c2-3 c2-5m c2-31 c2-1z c2-5n\">2 feet of rushing water<\/strong>\u00a0can carry away most vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>And floodwaters often contain\u00a0<strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-3x c2-3y c2-3 c2-5m c2-31 c2-1z c2-5n\">hidden currents, debris, sewage, and bacteria<\/strong>\u00a0that make swimming nearly impossible \u2014 even for strong swimmers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flash floods like those we\u2019ve seen this month are especially dangerous because they\u00a0<strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c2-3x c2-3y c2-3 c2-5m c2-31 c2-1z c2-5n\">come with little to no warning<\/strong>\u00a0and hit hardest overnight when most people are sleeping.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"x-el x-el-h3 c2-66 c2-67 c2-1o c2-1p c2-1q c2-1r c2-1s c2-1t c2-3c c2-3 c2-2d c2-1y c2-47 c2-48 c2-49 c2-4a c2-4b\">\ud83d\udee1\ufe0f Why Water Safety Still Matters<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>We teach swim lessons, yes.
